The short version

CamNotes is a logging tool for camera departments. Your notes are written to the device you log them on and stay there unless you choose to save them to the cloud or share them.

You can use CamNotes without an account: log a whole shoot day, export the report, hand it over, and nothing has been sent to us.

We do not sell your data, and there is no advertising in CamNotes. As of the date above we run no analytics and set no tracking cookies; if that ever changes we will say so here first.

What we collect, and when

If you never create an account

Nothing reaches us. Everything you log is stored on your own device. Exports — PDF, Excel, CSV — are generated on your device and downloaded there.

Loading the site produces the standard web-server records any website produces — an IP address, a browser type, the page requested. We do not use these to build a profile of you.

If you create an account

• Your email address, to identify you and to send sign-in links.
• Days you choose to save to the cloud — the take log itself: scene and take numbers, clip names, your notes, camera and roll details, timestamps, and any marks you apply.
• Basic account records — when you signed up, when you last signed in.

Saving to the cloud is a decision you make per shoot day. Days you do not save never leave your device.

If you use a workspace

Production companies can be given their own CamNotes workspace. In a workspace we additionally store the workspace name, who its members are and their roles, pending invitations, and an audit record of membership changes.

Members of a workspace can see days saved to that workspace. That is the point of a workspace, and it is what the person who invited you intended.

What we do not collect

• No analytics or tracking as of the date above — no analytics service, no pixels, no session recording.
• No tracking cookies. The only cookie we set keeps you signed in.
• No third-party content loaded into the application — the fonts and assets it uses are served from CamNotes itself.
• No media. CamNotes never sees your footage. It records notes about takes, not the takes themselves.

Where your data is handled

We use a small number of established infrastructure providers to host the site, store accounts and cloud-saved days, and send sign-in emails. They process data only on our instructions and only to provide those services.

Data for accounts and cloud-saved days is stored in the United States.

If you choose a Google export, Google receives the report you asked us to create. That is covered below.

Google user data

If you connect Google Drive, CamNotes requests the drive.file scope only. This permits access to files CamNotes itself creates in your Drive and gives no access to any other file in your Drive.

We use that access solely to create the export you requested. We do not read your other files, we do not retain a copy of the exported file, and we do not use Google user data for advertising, for training models, or for any purpose other than the export you asked for. We do not transfer Google user data to anyone except as needed to create that file, or where the law requires it.

CamNotes’ use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can revoke this access at any time in your Google account settings.

What we can and cannot see

Being exact about this is more useful than reassuring language.

• Days you keep on your device: we cannot see them at all. They are not on any server we control.
• Days you save to the cloud: stored in our database, protected so that other users cannot read them. People who operate the service and have database access can technically read them. This is true of every hosted product that is not end-to-end encrypted; we would rather say so than imply otherwise. We access customer data only to fix a fault you have reported, or where the law requires it.
• Dedicated workspaces: a production company on a dedicated deployment is kept separate from other customers.

How long we keep things

• Cloud-saved days: until you delete them, or until you close your account.
• Account records: until you close your account.
• Published report links: thirty days, or until you revoke them.
• Backups: backups are retained for a short period, typically a few weeks, after which deleted data ages out.

Your choices

• Use it without an account. The full logging and export experience requires no sign-up.
• Delete a day. Removes it from your device and, if saved, from the cloud.
• Revoke a shared report link at any time.
• Disconnect Google in your Google account settings.
• Close your account. Email help@camnotes.app and we will delete your account and the days associated with it.

If you are in California

The California Consumer Privacy Act gives California residents the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to request correction, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

To make a request, email help@camnotes.app. We verify identity through the email address on the account.

Children

CamNotes is a professional tool and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email help@camnotes.app and we will remove it.

Security

Access to cloud-saved days is enforced below the application, so a fault in one part of CamNotes cannot expose another customer’s data. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
